Animal Welfare

Animal Welfare

Because every

life matters!!!

Every animal life matters & every animal life is meaningful

"The idea that some lives are worth less is the root of all evil in this world."
                                                                 (Dr. Paul Farmer)

About Animal Welfare:

Animal Welfare is important, because animals are our fellow-creatures and are treated as if they have no feelings, thoughts or other emotions.
Maybe there are exceptions in the way of thinking of the cultures or people in relation to dogs and cats. maximum still horses. But hardly for other animal species like farm-animals, birds or even reptiles. Sadly, animals are seen as hunting trophies, food, clothing or as test animals for the cosmetics and pharma industry etc..
But they need help just as much as we humans do.

Sentinent beings

Animals are living beings. They feel pain, joy, sorrow, they live together in social associations, just like humans do. And they grieve when a family member passes away.
Depending on the species, they maintain lifelong partnerships. (The males fight for a chosen female and pose or they fight for their goods and chattels, i.e. food and their territory.

 Social interaction

And they raise their young just like we humans do: they protect them, they teach them everything that is important, they give them love, they play with them and when they grow up, they are allowed to slowly learn to leave home and become independent and look for their own family.

So what is so different about them from us humans? The answer is: very little. (Fortunately, research and animal psychology has now recognized that animals have similar brain regions to ours.

The brain

A similar structure to our prefrontal cortex, a similar structure to our limbic system. Birds have a different brain structure than mammals. But this does not diminish their mental abilities in any way. On the contrary. A parrot has the intelligence of a 3-year-old toddler and feels the same way. A pig can even learn more tricks than a dog. (So, why pet the one and eat the other?)

Endangered through loss of habitat or hated by species

But unfortunately, many people still do not see animals as equals. Even in the law (in Germany) animals are not a living being, they are just a "thing." This is sad enough. And we are taking away their habitat by building on the last piece of land. This brings the wild animals closer and closer to the cities, which is extremely stressful for them. Light, noise, dog attacks and last but not least the traffic, which has cost many animals their lives.
And there`s the dark side of the poor animals who aren`t appreciated just because of their species. Farm animals likfe chickens, cattles, pigs, sheep or pigeons, rats, etc.

They need our help

Animals are sentient beings. They need our help and our love. For health and protection.

In the wild animal world, bacterial and viral diseases spread due to stress and weakened immune systems. The same is true for our pets, where health problems are compounded by overbreeding, misbreeding or the illegal pet trade.

And maybe on of them can touch your heart too and you want to become a sponsor and animal parent

Koala Hospital Port Macquarie

https://www.koalahospital.org.au/

As a licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility, the Koala Hospital has been helping rescue and rehabilitate koalas since 1973. The facility is run by Koala Conservation Australia Limited, which is a not-for-profit organisation that includes approximately 200 volunteers dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating koalas and conserving and restoring their natural habitats. In 2022, the Koala was officially listed as an endangered species. Recent studies indicate the koala will become extinct in New South Wales before 2050 – unless rapid and effective action is taken! On the left photo you see Ewans Head CW. Is is a rescued little male Koala and has lost one of his eyes. He is a permanent guest at the Hospital.

Huerdenwellies e.v. - Help for handicap budgies

https://huerdenwellies.de/

The Hürdenwellies e.V. is still a very young and small association that wants to build up slowly and steadily. If you would like to support the Hürdenwellies, we would be happy about your donation, sponsorship or membership. Here budgies are taken in, which are taken out of bad keeping or whose owners can no longer take care of them, budgies with special diseases, which need special care, budgies, which possibly can no longer fly or need special medication, find a loving home here. Yes, even a bird with a disability or chronic illness has a right to a nice life and love. On the picture to the right, you can see my little Ida, for which I have a sponsorship.
